Fall 2024 Recap!

Making Waves at the San Diego Fall Classic

In early November, our Sun Devils took on seven races at the San Diego Fall Classic. Highlights from that regatta include:

  • Novice Women’s 4+: Silver Medal (2nd Place)

  • Novice Women’s 8+: Silver Medal (2nd Place)

  • Varsity Men’s 8+: 14th Place

  • Varsity Men’s 2x: 2nd Place

  • Varsity Women’s 4x: 2nd Place

  • Novice Men’s 8+: 5th Place

  • Novice Men’s 4+: 4th Place

It was a remarkable showing for both our varsity and novice squads, with the novice women showcasing major depth and the men’s squads fighting hard in large, competitive fields.

Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga

Later in November, a smaller travel squad headed to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Head of the Hooch—one of the largest fall regattas in the country. ASU competed in two events:

  • Varsity Men’s 4+: 13th Place

  • Varsity Women’s 2x: 7th Place

Facing tough competition on the Tennessee River, our crews gave it their all.

Spooky Sprints!

No ASU Rowing fall season is complete without our annual Spooky Sprints tradition! Most of our novice rowers got into the spirit, racing in full Spider-Man costumes and bringing plenty of Halloween cheer to Tempe Town Lake. We also participated in several local races throughout the fall, giving our novices valuable racing experience close to home.

Giving Back: Volunteer Activities

Off the water, we stayed busy with various volunteer events:

  • Gold Rush at ASU: Welcoming and assisting new students

  • Clean Tempe Town Lake: Keeping our home course in top shape

  • Helping ASU Sports Clubs: Supporting fellow Sun Devil club athletes

  • And Many More…

We take pride in contributing to the university and the community that supports us.

Alumni & Friends Mixer

Early in the semester, we hosted our annual Alumni and Friends Mixer, where current rowers reconnected with former teammates and loyal supporters. It was wonderful to share stories and race plans with the extended ASU Rowing family!

Fundraising Fun at Venezia’s Pizza

Our fall fundraising event at Venezia’s Pizza proved to be another success. A special congratulations to Vik and Ahmet, who completed the restaurant’s notorious “Pizza Challenge” and helped raise additional funds for the team. We appreciate everyone who came out to show their support!

Looking Ahead to Spring 2025

As the fall season wraps up, we’re excited to welcome new rowers to our roster and gear up for a busy spring. Mark your calendars for upcoming regattas:

  • WIRA

  • ACRA

  • San Diego Crew Classic

  • Desert Sprints

  • Gator Grinds

We can’t wait to see what the next semester has in store. Thank you to everyone—coaches, rowers, alumni, families, and fans—for making this fall season unforgettable. Stay tuned for more updates as we head into Spring 2025 ready to give it our all!
